	Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate a particular aspect of semantic change. Among theories which have tried to capture regularities in semantic change, some take space as the necessary starting point of any semantic development, while for others space is situated at the same distance from the “semantic core” of a given lexeme as other semantic domains, such as time. I will formulate a partial answer to the question of the primacy of space. Using diachronic corpus data, I will examine prepositions in Old and Middle French (11th to 16th centuries). The prepositions I have focused on are vers, envers, devers, and pardevers, chosen from a wider corpus of prepositions because of their semantic behavior, which is particularly complex, and which I try to explain here in detail. ; Le but de cet article est d'étudier un point spécifique du changement sémantique. Parmi les théories traitant des régularités de l'évolution sémantique, certaines prennent l'espace comme point de départ nécessaire de tout changement sémantique, tandis que pour d'autres l'espace est tout aussi loin du 'noyau sémantique' d'un lexème donné que les autres domaines sémantiques comme le temps. Je propose une réponse partielle à la question de la primauté de l'espace, sur la base de données diachroniques, en observant des prépositions en ancien et moyen français (11ème-16ème siècles). Les prépositions que j'étudie sont vers, envers, devers et pardevers, choisies parmi un groupe plus large de prépositions en raison de leur comportement sémantique complexe, que je tente d'exposer de manière détaillée.
