Amith, 2009 Abstract: Rubén Macario platica sobre la construcción de casas en el pasado. Comenta que antes de empezar a colocar el marco de la casa, se aplanaba el terreno donde se iba a construir. Después de esto se buscaba la madera más resistente, generalmente kakatekowit (Tapirira mexicana Marchand) o a:wa:t (Quercus spp.), para los horcones. Luego se enterraban los horcones y se colocaban los cargadores arriba. Enseguida se acomodaban los taihti:yo:meh ('tirantes'), se ponía el tate:ntatsakwil (prob. 'plancha lateral'), que algunas personas le llamaban 'taparrabo', pero a esa madera nosotros le llamábamos tate:ntatsakwil. Se acomodaba el pie derecho, el caballete, las alfardas y la alfajilla. Para la alfajilla se usaba el tarro (otate). Se partía a la mitad y esa mitad se partía en dos partes todavía. Antes para techar las casas se usaban las hojas de kwoma:ikowit (prob. Nectandra reticulata (R. & P.) Mez), las hojas de anaykowit (prob. Beilschmiedia anay (S.F. Blake) Kosterm.) y el zacate de caña. Las hojas de kwoma:ikowit y las hojas de anaykowit se cortaban con las ramas pequeñas y se amarraban por rollos para colocar en hileras sobre la alfajilla. Se tenían que ir cerrando muy bien las hileras para que no se filtrara el agua. El zacate de caña también se cortaba, pero uno se tenía que fijar muy bien al amarrarlo en rollos porque las hojas tienen el haz y el envés. Y se tenían que colocar los rollos de acuerdo a como no pudiera filtrarse el agua durante los aguaceros. Las hojas y el zacate que se usaban se empezaba a poner empezando desde las filas de abajo y yendo hacia arriba para ir encimando los rollos. Cuando se terminaba de techar se cerraban las paredes con madera de xo:no:kowit (Heliocarpus donnellsmithii Rose, y quizá Heliocarpus appendiculatus Turcz.). Este tipo de pared que le llamábamos xo:no:kowtatsakwil. Antes las casas no se cerraban las paredes con block o piedra; tampoco se conocían las ventanas que hoy se ven en las casas. Antes se ponían dos puertas en la casa para salir o entrar y se cerraban éstas también con madera de xo:no:kowit. Actualmente las casas se les pone techo de lámina de cartón, teja de barro, o colado con cemento.
