中国語系初級日本語学習者がホテル検索サイトを読むときの困難点

Abstract:
; The purpose of this study was to investigate how Chinese learners of Japanese used a hotel search site, including the reading process needed to navigate and use the site, and the comprehension difficulties that arise. Eleven Chinese learners of elementary Japanese participated in this research. They read information on two hotel websites and reported on their reading process. The results showed the following: (i) For Chinese learners of elementary Japanese, high-frequency katakana words on the hotel search site, such as "ツイン (twin room)" and "フロント (front desk)," and words that are characteristic of hotel search sites, such as "貸し切り風呂 (reserved bath)" were difficult to understand. (ii) The Chinese learners tended to rely too much on kanji and ignore phrases written in hiragana, such as inflected suffix endings and grammatical particles, so they were not able to understand the meaning. Furthermore, sometimes they tended to process the meaning of kanji only and interpret with the wrong meaning. (iii) Chinese learners of elementary Japanese tried to use supplementary tools, such as translation and dictionary websites. However, these sites contain a lot of incorrect information. Learners need skills to effectively use the results of translation and dictionary sites.
