Abstract: My purpose is to present the remarkable growth Translation Studies is experiencing in Brazil in the last three decades and to offer a historical overview of the development of the discipline. I begin by examining the antecedents and publications outside the university in the 1980s. Then, I describe the huge expansion in the 1980s and 1990s, followed by institutionalization. I end up with a discussion of problems and future possibilities. ; Cet article examine le développement des études de traduction au Brésil pendant les trois dernières décennies et offre un aperçu historique de l'évolution de la discipline. On commence par examiner les précurseurs et les publications en dehors de l'université dans les années 1980. On décrit ensuite son expansion dans les années 1980 et 1990, suivie de l'institutionnalisation. On finit par une discussion des problèmes et des possibilités futures. ; Este artigo examina o grande crescimento em Estudos da Tradução no Brasil nas últimas três décadas e oferece um panorama histórico do desenvolvimento da disciplina. Ele começa por examinar os precursores e publicações fora da universidade na década de 1980, e, em seguida, descreve a enorme expansão nos anos 1980 e 1990, seguido da institucionalização. Ele termina com uma discussão dos problemas e possibilidades futuras. ; Este trabajo examina el gran crecimiento en los Estudios de la Traducción en Brasil en las últimas tres décadas y ofrece una visión histórica del desarrollo de la disciplina. Comienza examinando los precursores y las publicaciones fuera de la universidad en la década de 1980, y después describe la enorme expansión en las décadas de 1980 y 1990, seguida de su institucionalización. Finaliza con una discusión sobre problemas y posibilidades futuras.
