Abstract: La falta de correspondencia entre los verbos modales del inglés y los medios de expresión del árabe marroquí para aproximar nociones modales ha sido un aspecto mencionado como fuente potencial de dificultades, tanto para estudiantes de segundas lenguas como para traductores. El objetivo de este trabajo es considerarlos aspectos discursivos con los que debemos contar a la hora de explicar el déficit existente en la formulación gramatical de modalidad en árabe marroquí, tal como se muestra en la propuesta de equivalencias de traducción para usos prototípicos de verbos modales del inglés. Se presta especial atención a la conexión entre cómo está configurada la modalidad en árabe marroquí y la dinámica discursiva empleada para resolver las restricciones pragmáticas ligadas a la expresión de algunos actos de habla en esta lengua. En árabe marroquí, la expresión de la modalidad y la realización de algunos actos de habla comparten la exigencia de utilizar "un complemento ilocucionario". ; The lack of correspondence between English modal verbs and Moroccan Arabic's instrumentation of modal notions has been reported to be a potential source of dificulties for both second language learners and translators. The aim of this paper is to consider the discourse aspects involved in explaining the existing deficit in the grammatical formulation of modality in Moroccan Arabic, as shown in the proposal of translational equivalences for prototypical uses of English modal verbs. Particular attention is paid to the connection between how modality is configurated in Moroccan Arabic and the discourse dynamics exerted to resolve the pragmatic constraints bound to the expression of some speech acts in this language. In Moroccan Arabic, the expression of modality and the realization of some speech acts share the requirement of using "an illocutionary complement".
