Expressionist Analysis Of Wilfred Owen's Poems: Anthem For Doomed Youth, Dulce Et Decorum Est, A Terre, Futility And Strange Meeting
Kousar, R; Sarfraz, N; Qasim, K. - : International Journal of English and Education, 2016
Abstract: This paper reveals representation of reality in Wilfred Owens selected poems. It usesabstraction, artistic volition and interior monologue to explore expressionism in Owens poems. It takes insight from the experimentation of Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh and Strindberg.Expressionism breaks the narrowing limits of finite reality presented by the outward callousworld. It focuses on the eternal feelings and emotions rather than the external objects. WilfredOwen is remarkable in his poetic usage of metrical and musical effects and imagery. He sustainsthe courage to treat the ugly and strange matters. He reveals reality through metaphor and novelways of applying colors. This study offers a fresh perspective to the readers to visualize Owenspoetry in a fresh position.
