Abstract:
This paper analyzes the types of wh- questions used in Spanish trials. To this end, two judicial corpus of criminal matters have been examined: the first has been compiled in Almería and the second in Barcelona. The results indicate a low utilization of the wh- questions, because they represent 16.9% of the corpus studied. This data demonstrates that in the Spanish examinations yes/no questions prevail, in which the interrogator has more control over the information provided. As for the frequency of use, the interrogative pronoun what is the most used, representing 42.3% of the wh- questions in the analyzed corpus; secondly how (17.1%) and thirdly why (12.3%); the remaining wh- questions have unrepresentative percentages ; En este artículo se analizan los tipos de preguntas abiertas utilizadas en juicios españoles.
