Abstract:
International audience ; This work sheds new light on the acquisition and use of the placement of the adverbial particle within direct transitive phrasal verbs in young English-speaking children. The analyzes in this study are based on longitudinal data from the spontaneous oral speech of two monolingual English-speaking children, Naima (Providence Corpus, Demuth, Culbertson & Alter, 2006) and Ella (Forrester Corpus, Forrester, 2002), respectively followed between 0;11 and 3;10 and between 1;00 and 4;00 during spontaneous parent-child interactions filmed in a natural environment at the family home. In line with previous studies, the results obtained confirm that young English-speaking children produce the split configuration (V-O-Prt) with an overwhelming majority, the latter being, however, much more cognitively complex than the continuous configuration (V-Prt-O). By comparing the child's data with that of the adult, this research, however, takes the opposing view to previous studies and offers new thinking emphasizing both the major influence of parental input and the sequence order of the three stages of the acquisition of verb-particle constructions in the English-speaking child’s language (Riguel, 2016). ; Ce travail apporte un éclairage nouveau sur l'acquisition et l'usage du placement de la particule adverbiale au sein des phrasal verbs transitifs directs chez le jeune enfant anglophone. Les analyses effectuées dans cette étude s'appuient sur les données longitudinales du discours oral spontané de deux enfants unilingues anglophones, Naima (Corpus Providence ; Demuth, Culbertson & Alter, 2006) et Ella (Corpus Forrester ; Forrester, 2002), suivies respectivement entre 0;11 et 3;10 et entre 1;00 et 4;00 lors d'interactions spontanées parent-enfant filmées en milieu naturel à leur domicile familial. Dans la lignée des études antérieures, les résultats obtenus confirment que les jeunes enfants anglophones produisent la configuration discontinue V-O-Prt à une majorité écrasante, celle-ci étant pourtant bien plus complexe que la configuration continue V-Prt-O sur le plan cognitif. En comparant les données de l'enfant avec celles de l'adulte, cette recherche prend cependant le contre-pied des approches antérieures et propose une réflexion nouvelle soulignant à la fois l'influence considérable de l'input parental et l'ordre de déroulement des trois phases de l'acquisition des constructions verbe-particule dans le langage de l'enfant anglophone (Riguel, 2016).
