Abstract:
外国語学習の理想的な目標のひとつは、思考と表現の直接的な結合を確立し、母語を介在させることなしに当該の外国語で意思の疎通を図ることができるようになることである。しかし、この目標は容易に達成できるものではなく、特に日本語話者が英語を学習する、あるいはその逆の場合のように、母語と学習対象言語の言語的距離が遠い場合、その困難さは大きくなる。日本語と英語の場合に特に問題となる特性のひとつは両者の語順が鏡像関係にあることであり、この問題を克服するために様々な学習法が考案され活用されてきた。本稿の目的は、日本語話者を対象とした英語授業での実践の報告を通して、ウェブベースの学習アプリのひとつであるQuizletが、伝統的に用いられていた学習法を実行する際に大きな手助けとなることを示すことである。 ; The ideal goal of studying a foreign language is arguably to establish the direct bond between thought and expressions and become able to communicate with the language without the intervention of the speaker's native language. This goal is not always easy to achieve, especially in cases where the linguistic distance between the speaker's language and the target language he or she studies is great like in the case of Japanese speakers studying English or vice versa. One of the especially problematic features in these cases is the mirror-image ordering relations of the two languages, and to clear the obstacle, various methodologies have traditionally been proposed and utilized. This paper claims that the Quizlet application, a mobile and web-based study application, can be a very useful tool to assist students to put into practice these age-old methods of studying a foreign language whose linguistic distance is great from students' native language, by reporting the use of the application in English classes for Japanese speakers.
