	Abstract: Анотація. Стаття присвячена проблематиці засвоєння слівіншомовного походження лексичною системою мови-реципієнта. Метоюстатті є подання огляду лінгвістичної літератури, що пов’язана здослідженням особливостей асиміляції запозичених лексем. Актуальністьданої проблематики полягає в тому, що для сучасних мов невирішеноюзалишається проблема нормалізації та адаптації запозичень у мові-реципієнті. Відсутність чітких та уніфікованих норм щодо передачіматеріальної форми запозичених апелятивів призводить до зростанняваріативності передачі нових лексем з різних мов. Особливо актуальним це єсьогодні, коли українська мова вступає у прямі, безпосередні контакти збагатьма мовами світу. ; The studying of language contacts in linguistics is considered to bevery significant and interesting. The process of borrowing lexical units from onelanguage into another cannot be prevented, as there are hardly any isolatednations and peoples in the world. The main reason for it is the globalization of allspheres of human activity. Lexical borrowing is a very complicated process, the34result of which is the transformation of the word of the source language into a newlexical unit of the target language in accordance with its phonetical andgrammatical peculiarities. Loan words enter the system of the recipient-languageand in the course of time become assimilated in this language. The given article isdevoted to some theoretical problems of assimilation of borrowed lexical units inthe target language. Linguists distinguish different stages of entering of aborrowed lexical unit into the system of the target language. In the present articlewe will make an attempt to analyze points of view of different linguists on thiscomplex language phenomenon. We will focus mainly on the stages of assimilationof loan-words
