Estrategias del horror gótico en el cine latinoamericano contemporáneo

Abstract: En las últimas décadas, el cine de horror se ha ido asentando cada vez en Latinoamérica no sólo como un género de entretenimiento global sino como una forma de denunciar traumas políticos y realidades socioculturales imperantes. Sin embargo, en este ensayo exploramos una serie de producciones de cine latinoamericano contemporáneo que utilizan las estrategias y estilo del horror gótico para denotar ciertos miedos y ansiedades sociopolíticas. Aunque estas películas no se clasifican bajo el rubro de cine de horror, nuestra lectura posibilita un acercamiento utilizando los parámetros utilizados en el cine de género. Entre algunas de las fórmulas que se repiten es el uso de geografías inciertas, tiempos atemporales, silencios perturbadores, espacios ambiguos y personajes paranoicos. Examinaremos cómo la geografía urbana o rural sirve para yuxtaponer asuntos de identidad nacional, seguridad social e ideologías políticas. Para nuestro análisis discutimos Historia del miedo (Argentina, 2014; Benjamin Naishtat) y O som ao redor (Brasil, 2012; Kleber Filho) como ejemplos paradigmáticos de cómo la estética gótica se utiliza para demostrar cómo los miedos sociales se manifiestan en las prácticas y espacios cotidianos.
