Abstract:
Autonomy is a broad concept and there are loads of definitions about it. Political autonomies are one step back from the statehood because they meet three of four criterias of statehood: a permanent population, a defined territory and government. But they cannot conduct foreign affairs with other states. Autonomous regions have played important role in Georgia’s political life. Georgia faced many implications in its autonomous regions and applications from non-autonomous regions but problems were not emerged only on the basis of granting autonomy to any region. There were several contributing factors with autonomy, which resulted in secessionist and separatist movements: engagement of external powers, linguistic differences, different religion, Caucasus’s complex geography and ethnography, economic hardship and the Soviet legacy.Scientific research ‘Autonomy: Applications and Implications.
