Marginalization of Native Language: An Effect of English Language Globalization in Bangladesh ...
Abstract: English as a lingua franca in the era of globalization has placed the language in an unparallel status of a world language in different Asian countries. It has inflicted the dying situation of indigenous languages since the advent of British colonization in different parts of Asia, including Bangladesh. English Language was imposed on indigenous nations to strengthen and expand their colonizational power. Having no legacy in the Bangladesh constitution, English Language with its globalizational character causes a constant threat to the use of national language, Bangla. English Language globalization has also several impacts on the education system in Bangladesh. Since research in this area has trivially been done and language policy is not explicitly evident, this study aims to investigate the effect of the rapid spread of English in the backdrop of the narrative of globalization on Native language use.
