Abstract: The goal of this experiment is to test how different types of intonation affect the interpretation of 'at least'. We compare three intonational confi gurations with respect to the target word 'at least' associates with: (i) a neutral downstep, (ii) a downstep with delayed peak, and (iii) an upstep. Participants listen to a target sentence with one intonation and are then asked to choose which of two contexts - one for the epistemic interpretation and one for the concessive interpretation - fits better. ...
