Abstract:
We will test whether the MI technical and relational hypotheses are replicable in a new population. MI causal theory hypothesizes that active ingredients, such as therapist MI-consistent skills (e.g., complex reflections), will lead to increases in mechanisms of behavior change such as client change talk, which will then predict improved outcomes (Miller & Rose, 2009). Parallel paths are predicted for MI relational components such as therapist Empathy and MI Spirit (Miller & Rose, 2009). In the current secondary analysis of a completed clinical trial, MI technical and relational theory will be tested in a population of Latino/a/x individuals who engage in heavy alcohol consumption. ...
