La discrimination sexiste au parlement allemand : enjeux institutionnels et linguistiques
In: Corela, Vol 36 (2022) (2022)
Abstract: With 31% female members of the Bundestag, Germany is still far away from parity in politics. This article aims to shed light on the institutional and discursive reasons for this situation. First, we will discuss the mechanisms that hinder women's access to the parliament : their confinement to the private sphere, their perception as non-political persons, intra-party practices and the voting system. At the institutional level, concrete solutions such as parity quotas within parties are practised and other solutions are being discussed, as is currently a change in the voting system. Secondly, we will see that even once this first step is taken, the activities of female MPs are still linked to specific gender issues that arise at the linguistic level, for example through sexist interruptions during their speeches.
