Abstract:
Ausgehend von der Hypothese, dass der Vermittlung von Vokabellernstrategien im Französisch-Unterricht der österreichischen Sekundarstufe kaum Rechnung getragen wird, erhebt diese Abschlussarbeit mittels einer qualitativen Lehrwerkanalyse, welche Vokabellernstrategien in acht ausgewählten Französisch-Lehrwerken des AnfängerInnenunterrichts vorkommen. Dazu wird über eine breit angelegte Aufrollung der sprachlerntheoretischen Grundlagen für das Vokabellernen ein Blick auf diverse mit dem Thema verwandte Fachgebiete geworfen, wie beispielsweise die Linguistik, Psychologie, Fachdidaktik, Pädagogik, Psycholinguistik und versucht zu erklären, welche Prozesse beim Vokabellernen zu tragen kommen. Das theoretische Grundgerüst verfolgt somit die Absicht, Erkenntnisse über das „Wie“ des Vokabellernens in einen Bezug zur fachlichen Praxis zu setzen. Das Forschungsprojekt greift Rebecca Oxfords Klassifizierungskonzept der Lernstrategien als Grundlage für die Lehrwerkanalyse heraus und zeigt entgegen der Ausgangshypothese, dass alle untersuchten Lehrwerke Inputs zu Vokabellernstrategien enthalten, wenn auch mit einer stark schwankenden Intensität. Während der gedächtnisstützende Strategiebereich besonders gut abgedeckt wird, zählen der soziale und affektive zu jenen, die nur vereinzelt vorkommen. Mithilfe dieser Erkenntnisse soll Französisch-Lehrenden die Wahl des Kursbuches erleichtert werden. ; Based on the hypothesis that instruction in vocabulary learning strategies is often neglected in French textbooks accredited for Austrian secondary schools, this thesis aims at uncovering which of those strategies can be found in eight different beginner schoolbooks. The chosen method for this research project is a qualitative textbook analysis. As a starting point for this thesis, a wide variety of theoretical concepts revolving around the acquisition of new vocabulary is discussed in detail. Therefore, scientific fields that are referred to in order to describe the process of learning new lexis include linguistics, psychology, didactics, pedagogy and psycholinguistics. The goal of this extensive literature review on vocabulary and strategy learning is the creation of a connection between theory and practice. The research project at hand uses Rebecca Oxford’s classification of direct and indirect strategies in order to categorize the vocabulary learning strategies found in the French textbooks. Results show that the initial hypothesis can be rejected since all of the schoolbooks include a varying number of activities and inputs on strategic vocabulary learning. Among the diverse learning strategy areas, memory strategies have been found to be the most prominent throughout the textbooks, while social and affective strategies seem to only be addressed in some of the publications. The findings of this study may serve French teachers as a guideline for an informed coursebook selection.
