Abstract:
This session documents almost a day of public activities in connection with the harvesting of corn. The main person, 042, wanted to give a complete account of the traditions involved with corn harvesting. In the morning, 042 calls for volunteers to participate in the harvesting of his last corn field. Several members of the community, especially younger ones, travel by bike and by foot to the field. There, the women harvest the corn, 042 cleans the way, cuts the corn plants. The young men make a fire and all eat some corn in the field. Back in the village, 042 shares a part of the corn with the village. Some of the corn is roasted on a fire and consumed by men in the center. In 042's house, a large corn cake is prepaired. It is carried to the center and eaten by children and men. All young who have eaten of the corn will then be scarified. Several dialogues and explanations by 042 should be transcribed.
