Abstract:
Eleuterio Gorostiza y Cristina Vázquez hablan de los tipos de ma:ltantsi:n (prob. variedades de Satureja brownie (Swartz) Briq. Vázquez comenta que hay tres tipos de ma:ltantsi:n: blanco, morado y china. El ma:ltantsi:n blanco crece en lugares húmedos como pantanos. También se puede cultivar en huertos pero requiere que se riegue mucho. De lo contrario se seca. El ma:ltantsi:n blanco se encuentra en Cuetzalan. Pero los otros dos tipos de ma:ltantsi:n, el morado y el chino, no se dan en Cuetzalan aunque lo traen para vender de tierras altas aunque ni Vázquez ni Gorostiza sabe bien de donde. Los tres tipos de ma:ltantsi:n fácilmente se distinguen: el blanco tiene tallo blanco, el morado tiene tallo morado y el chino tiene flores con tinte morado. Los tres tipos de ma:ltantsi:n sirven para curar el susto. Se prepara en té y se toma como agua de tiempo. También se puede preparar un ungüento con aguardiente que se le unta al paciente en todo el cuerpo. Luego se cubre con cobijas para que sude. Así hace efecto para curar el susto. Finalmente, comenta Vázquez que se pueden preparar 'pelotillas' (énemas) de ma:ltantsi:n. Para eso se muelen los tres tipos juntos. Una vez molido se hace en forma de bolitas y se envuelven con algodón para que no se desmoronen.
