Abstract:
Baba Jangu told his son some stories in the presence of Bukunmi, Daniel, and Anita. ; This project focuses on the documentation of Cifungwa folktales. ; This session includeds five narratives. The first one is about how Gizo was caught after stealing the maize of a rich. After Gizo's release, he locked up the king and the rich man in order to commit another crime. The second story is about the Ringa Mountain and how they came to Pandogari from Kporumi. In the third story, Jangu narrated the story of love and infidelity in marriage. It explores how the wisdom deployed in the resolution of unfaithfulness in marriage. The fourth story is about Dog, Goat, and Hyena. Goat and Dog tricked Hyena and stopped it from eating. While running from death, Dog kept on looking back and Goat's tail was bitten off by Hyena. According to Cifungwa people, this explains why Dog always look back while running and and why Goat has a short tail. In the fifth story, Baba Jangu talked about coronation and a traditional staff called ngwanagwama. The object is a tree form with life. During the coronation, the object is adorned with hair style and the women sing. The song that the women sing is considered secret. ; A post-graduate student of University of Ibadan ; An undergraduate student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria. ; Anita, a student at the Department of Linguistics, University of Ibadan, was born in Ibadan to Igbo parents. She has lived most of life in Ibadan. ; A village chief in Ringa village. He is a farmer, wood caver and he weaves mat. He is the father of Sahabi.
