Abstract: Marião Inyamɨi Aikanã presents a variety of shamanic songs that she learned from her late husband Arui Uhune'i (Cap. Bum-Bum), who was a chief and the last acting shaman in the TI Tubarão;Latundê, accompanying him in the evenings during shamanic rituals. Arui Uhune'i himself was initiated by the late shaman Mundé Txiridö “Kenepi”, stepfather of Munde Aritximũ (Cap. Pedro) who recently passed away. Along with sacred music, Arui Uhune'i also had a great repertoire of songs sung at menina moça and dance festivities. While most of the Aikanã shamans are men, according to Marião, women can also become shamans. This can also be noted from the neighbouring Kanoê of the Omerê, where there is a strong female shaman, Tinamaty (“cobweb”). Marião explains to her daughter Rita the meaning, context and occasion of the song, which Rita translates into Portuguese. This recording was videotaped by Lisa Katharina Grund and audiotaped by Hein van der Voort in Paulo’s home, Marião’s son.
