Abstract:
Corymeta amplectens (Schaum, 1853) http://lsid.speciesfile.org/urn:lsid: Orthoptera.speciesfile.org:TaxonName:12605 (Figs. 33 A–D, 52D–F) Diagnostic remarks. A slender, green katydid (Fig. 33C) that can be identified by the extreme development of the male 10 th abdominal tergite, which forms a long, downcurved process that surpasses the cerci and subgenital plate (Figs. 33A, B). The cerci are simple, incurved, and ending in a small, sharp spine. The ovipositor is long and pointed, with a very fine serration on the edges of the valvulae (Fig. 33D). Bioacoustics. The call of C. amplectens is a series of widely spaced syllables, produced at the rate of 2 syllables/s; mean syllable duration is 0.0241 s (SD=0.012565, n=10); the peak frequency of the call is 22.3–25.2 kHz (Figs. 52 D–F). Distribution and natural history. C. amplectens was described from an unknown location in Mozambique (Schaum 1853) and was subsequently recorded from Zambia, Tanzania (Ragge 1980), and South Africa (material in SANC).
