Abstract: International audience ; Soqotri is one of the six Modern South Arabian Languages. It belongs to the southern Semitic, and it is spoken exclusively in Yemen, on the islands of Soqotra, Abd-el-Kuri and Samha. Its dialectology is very rich. The study of the dialectal situation and its development are relevant to evaluate the degree of liveliness and endangerment of the language today. After a brief overview of the present sociolinguistic situation on Soqotra and the geographic distribution of the different Soqotri dialects, the causes and the process of the erasing of dialectal characteristics are evaluated. The paper is based on data collected on fieldwork between 1985 and 2001.
