Abstract:
Abstract This paper focuses on the description of MICRO, a speech understanding system largely inspired by cognitive models. The main aim of this project is to improve the adaptative abilities of the system by means of this cognitive modelization. Following cognitive modularist theories, MICRO was thus given a multi-agent structure. Furthermore, we took into account the functional difference between analytic and holistic processing that has been characterized in human cognition. Consequently, a fast prosodic way of analysis, devoted to the definition of anchorage points, was added to the classical analytic strategy (from acoustic-phonetic decoding to linguistic analysis). We first present a brief overview of cognitive theories that represent the background of the project. The global structure of MICRO system is then described. Two particular groups of agents, corresponding to the low-level processings of both analytic and holistic analyses are finally described.
