Family Based Treatment is one model of a family-centered approach to speech and language services. In contrast to traditional speech-language treatment, most of the interventions performed using a Family Based Treatment approach are designed to be performed by the child's family members. This introduces a new set of variables, requirements, and perspectives to the treatment process. To investigate these changes, qualitative interviews of three families and their clinicians were conducted after a first one-hour session of Family Based Treatment, and again after the fifth session.
