L1 Spanish transfer in the acquisition of the phenomenon of that-deletion in English
Abstract: Following studies on the phenomenon of that-deletion in English (I think he will come), this TFG studies whether or not Spanish L2 learners of English display L1 interference in the acquisition of the phenomenon of that-deletion in English after the verbs say, believe and think in written and oral channels. The first part of the TFG is devoted to show the divergences between the English and Spanish complementisers (that and que, respectively) and how this may cause transfer with respect to Second Language Acquisition. In the second part of the TFG, is analysed the data taken from the experimental study carried out by Spanish L2 learners of English and a control group. The results demonstrated that there is existence of L1 transfer in L2 Spanish learners; however the English level of the participants also influences the presence or absence of the that-complementiser.
