Abstract: International audience ; Dès leur deuxième année les enfants montrent d'être capables de comprendre et de prendre en considération les états psychologiques d'autrui, états émotionnels, intentionnels et de connaissance. Ils peuvent, par exemple, inférer de quoi parle un adulte en se basant sur ce qui est nouveau pour ce dernier et non pour lui-­‐même. Mais dans la deuxième année, et après les débuts du langage, les enfants donnent des indications encore plus probantes de leur savoir faire à propos de l'esprit en parlant des états internes de soi et d'autrui , et en utilisant le langage de manière informative pour son interlocuteur : en parlant du passé et du futur , en donnant des justifications de son comportement , ou en mettant en langage les aspects subjectifs de son jeu de faire semblant. Ce savoir implicite à propos du mental d ' autrui est nécessaire au développement du langage lequel , en retour , contribue au développement ultérieur de la théorie de l ' esprit.
