	Abstract: Cette photographie a été prise durant la période d'octobre 2007 à mai 2008 au Sahara par le chercheur linguiste Lameen Souag, dans le cadre d'une enquête linguistique de terrain, pour documenter le Korandje (une langue songhay du sud-ouest de l'Algérie) et le siwi (une langue berbère de l'ouest de l'Égypte). Le Korandje (kʷɑrɑ n dzyəy) est la langue traditionnelle de Tabelbala, une petite oasis isolée dans le sud-ouest de l'Algérie entre Bechar et Tindouf. Elle est parlée par environ 3000 personnes réparties dans quatre villages : Kʷɑrɑ (Zaouia), Yami (Makhlouf), Ifrənyu (Cheraia), et le nouveau centre, əl-Kɑṛtsi (Hai El Wasat). ; The history of the little oasis of Tabelbala (southwestern Algeria) is recorded in stone by the cemetery of Imạmạḍən ("the marabouts"). Its tombs bear witness to the various saints who came from afar bearing blessings, and formerly attracted pilgrims from great distances. Their reputation helped protect the village in times of chaos.The tomb above belongs to Sidi Bou Zekri, the founder of Tabelbala. According to local legend, he decided to settle at the place where his camel stopped, under a tree which would give its name (awərbəl in Korandje, abelbal in Berber) to the oasis (Tsawərbəts / Tabelbalt respectively). His mausoleum has six "doors" in the form of arches; the elderly say this was so that he could come out in any direction to help those who call on him. The tomb is kept covered with cloths. On the ceiling of the dome, an ostrich egg (asiyəd n tsaffʷərts) was traditionally suspended, but today the ostriches that used to roam the nearby dunes are no more.At present the religious and social status of these monuments is controversial. Many see it as sinful to build large tombs, and even worse to seek help from the dead. Nevertheless, even as the youth learn not to take the idea of saints' protection seriously, they are also learning to view these tombs as part of their cultural heritage.This photo was taken by Lameen Souag during his doctoral fieldwork on Korandje, the Songhay language of Tabelbala. ; Dans la petite oasis de Tabelbala (sud-ouest algérien), l'histoire du terroir s'écrit à l'intérieur du cimetière des Imạmạḍən (marabouts). Les tombeaux attestent des différents saints qui sont arrivés de loin en apportant leur bénédiction, et ces lieux attiraient autrefois de nombreux et lointains pélerins. Leur renommée aidait à protéger le village aux époques les plus troublées. Le tombeau ci-dessus est celui de Sidi Bou Zekri, fondateur de Tabelbala. Selon la légende locale, il décida de s'installer là où sa chamelle s'était arrêtée, sous un arbre qui donnera son nom (awərbəl en korandjé, abəlbal en berbère) à l'oasis (Tsawərbəts / Tabelbalt). Son mausolée possède six "portes" en forme d'arches ; les vieux disent que c'est pour qu'il puisse sortir dans n'importe quelle direction pour aider celui qui l'appelle. Le sol est toujours couvert d'étoffes. Sur le plafond du dôme, on fixait un oeuf d'autruche (asiyəd), mais les autruches qui vivaient nombreuses sur les dunes ne sont plus là. Aujourd'hui le statut religieux et social de ces monuments est contesté. Pour certains, c'est un péché de construire de grands tombeaux, et encore plus grave d'espérer l'aide des morts. Mais, si les jeunes apprennent à ne plus prendre au sérieux la protection des saints, ils apprennent aussi à voir leurs tombeaux comme un patrimoine historique.Ce photo a été pris par Lameen Souag pendant ses recherches doctorales sur la langue songhay de Tabelbala, le korandjé.
