Abstract: This session concerns a popular folkstory widespread in Southwest China and is found in several different communities such as Han Chinese, Hmong, Mien etc. This is the Caijia version narrated by Ms. Li Xingzhi, a native Caijia speaker. Length: 14'45''; Equipment: Zoom H4N; Recording condition: indoor; Transcribed Translated Annotated ; This story is about two little girls abandoned by their family during the famine. The elder one is less smart and is eaten by the with of nettle; while the younger one survives and finally becomes wealthy. ; Caijia ; Recorded,translated and annotated by Lü Shanshan; transcribed by Lü Shanshan with the help of Li Kaiju; narrated by Li Xingzhi ; The birth date of Ms Li Xingzhi is not provided. Ms Li Xingzhi is a Caijia native speaker and learnt the language from her parents. However, there are no Caijia monolingual speakers. All of the Caijia speakers speaker the local Southwestern Mandarin dialect. Therefore, Southwestern Mandarin is also the mother tongue or primary language for all the Caijia speakers. ; Mr Li Kaiju is a Caijia native speaker and learnt the language from her parents since he was born, but Caijia is less practiced then. Southwestern Mandarin is his primary language. He can only provide some basic lexicon and sentences and helped with the IPA transcription. ; Fully annotated with five tiers including IPA text, morpheme-breaking, gloss, English and Chinese free translations.
