Abstract: This paper examines the increasing influence of English as an official and second language and the extent to which it has endangered the Erei language. The study adopts Attribution Theory as the theoretical framework because it aims to survey the intentional linguistic behaviour of people particularly in their response(s) to internal and external factors that control their language attitude. Data for the study were derived by means of participant observation using accidental and random sampling techniques. Findings show that English has exerted enormous and increasing influence on the Erei language which is seriously endangered. The outcomes of this practice have resulted in the nativisation of the English language, bi/multilingualism, code mixing and code switching between English and Erei. There have also been decreasing trend in inter-generational transmission, language contact through inter-marriages and trade, increasing apathy, dearth of pedagogic and preserved materials, among others.
