Abstract:
This is a recording of Marua Bai who sits by the Morehead river. The family is currently producing sago at a river camp. Marua tells a nzürna story. These stories are widespread in the region and have some local adaptions. The nzürna is a malevolent spirit who lives in the forest and chases and kills people. The recording was made close to Rouku village, Western Province, Papua New Guinea. The dataset includes: audio file (tci20111119a-06.wav) video file (tci20111119v-06.mpeg) transcription file (tci20111119a-06.eaf) The material was recorded by Christian Döhler as part of a language documentation project for his PhD. The project was located at the School of Culture, History and Language at the Australian National University, Canberra.
