In Support of Military Linguists: Integrating the Internet into U.S. Air Force Language Programs
In: DTIC AND NTIS (1999)
Abstract: This thesis examines the United States Air Force's (USAF) long range goal of having ten percent of its officers proficient in a foreign language by the year 2005 and argues that current USAF programs are insufficient to reach this goal. The landmark and current literature in the field of foreign language education is reviewed in an effort to define what constitutes proficiency and to demonstrate that the Internet is a viable resource and vehicle for foreign language instruction. Finally, the author proposes a World Wide Web site designed to facilitate foreign language instruction for USAF officers.
