Abstract: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a speech and/or language disorder resulting from neurodegeneration in the language regions of the dominant hemisphere (Mesulam, 2001; Gorno-Tempini et al., 2011). There are three variants of PPA that are classified by unique cognitive-linguistic profiles: nonfluent/agrammatic variant PPA (nfvPPA), logopenic variant PPA (lvPPA), and semantic variant PPA (svPPA). Patients typically have distinct clinical features consistent with one of the three variants. However, some individuals present with mixed characteristics, which are referred to as “PPA unclassifiable.” The purpose of this study was to evaluate a combined intervention for fluency and discourse in an individual with mixed PPA. The participant, AJ, presented with clinical features of both logopenic and nonfluent variant PPA. AJ’s spontaneous speech was reduced in fluency, with limited content and a large number of mazes and filler words. Video-Implemented Script Training for Aphasia (VISTA; Henry et al., 2018) is an ...
