Abstract:
We will study the effect of word imageability on processing time and the relation between inward- and outward-oriented attention. During the online experiment, participants will see words with different imageability ratings. They will be instructed to imagine the presented word and then answer a question concerning the word. The question will be displayed in a shortened form (hint) to reduce the effect of language processing. During the training phase, participants will learn which hint represents which of the two questions (Is it smaller than a car/Does it weight a lot). We will measure the reaction times to keystrokes (yes or no). The time between word onset and question onset will be varied systematically (three different SOAs). The task will be administered under two conditions: with a concurrently presented visual stimulus (black-and-white checkerboard with changing colors of the tiles) and with a blank screen. The data will be collected in two independent samples, one in Czech and one in German. ...
