Mehr als die Anwendung einer Methode gilt es, eine "analytische Mentalität" zu entwickeln. Das in diesem Beitrag beschriebene Projekt war ein Versuch, die theoretischen Fähigkeiten und praktischen Fertigkeiten einer Gruppe von Studie­renden zu fördern, die gemeinsam in dem Projekt zusammenarbeiteten: bei der Materialerhebung, bei der Aufnahme von Gesprächen zwischen ausländischen und deut­schen Studierenden, bei der Transkription des Materials und den gemeinsamen Daten­sitzungen und der Analyse. Ich möchte in diesem Beitrag aufzeigen, was die Studierenden auf der Grundlage qualitativen empirischen Materials auf verschiedenen Ebenen lernen konnten: (1) sie erlebten eine Einführung in die verschiedenen Ebenen eines komplexen Forschungsprozesses und entwickelten eine methodische und metho­do­logische Kompetenz; (2) ihre kommunikative Kompetenz wurde erweitert, insbesondere die fremd­sprach­liche Kompetenz wurde gestärkt; und (3) ihre Kenntnisse von interkulturellen Zusammenhängen wurden vertieft und durch die authentischen Materialien dokumentiert und gestützt. So konnten z.B. Stereotypen und ihre interaktive Herstellung auf der mikroanalytischen Ebene genauestens beschrieben werden. ; Conversational analysis—situated between pragmatic linguistics and qualitative empirical research—is a complex method, which needs a lot of time and dedication. It is necessary to develop a so-called “analytical mentality”. The aim of the project presented in this paper was to develop the theoretical insights and the practical skills of a group of students for this kind of research. They worked together throughout the duration of the project, especially in the collec¬tion of empiric material: i.e. the recording of conversations between foreign and German stu¬dents, the transcription of the material, a group discussion on the data and finally its analysis. This articles aims at showing what students can learn by doing this kind of work, based on examples of the collected empirical material: (1) they will be introduced to the different levels and stages of the research process and have the chance to develop a methodical and methodological competence; (2) their general communicative competences and their special competences of the foreign language will increase, as well as (3) their knowledge of intercultural learning by working with authentic data of intercultural communication. So, for instance, stereotypes and how they have been constructed during the interaction may be analysed and precisely described on a micro-analytical level. ; El análisis conversacional – situado entre la lingüística pragmática y la investigación empírica cualitativa – es un método complejo que necesita mucho tiempo y dedicación. También hay que desarrollar una "mentalidad analítica". El proyecto descrito fue un intento por desarrollar las habilidades teóricas y prácticas para el análisis de un grupo de estudiantes que trabajaron juntos en la elaboración del proyecto, particularmente en la colección de material empírico cualitativo: como por ejemplo, la grabación de conversaciones entre estudiantes extranjeros y estudiantes alemanes, la transcripción del material, la discusión común de los datos y su análisis. Esta contribución quiere demostrar, a partir de extractos del material empírico, lo que los estudiantes pudieron aprender a tres niveles distintos mientras hacían este trabajo: (1) introducción a los diferentes niveles de un proceso complejo de investigación y desarrollo de una competencia metódica y metodológica; (2) refuerzo de las competencias comunicativas en general y en lengua extran­jera en particular, (3) profundización de los conocimientos sobre el aprendizaje intercultural a base de auténticos ejemplos de comunicación intercultural. Así, por ejemplo, los estereotipos habituales y su construcción interactiva pueden ser analizados y descritos con mucha precisión en un nivel microanalítico.
