	Abstract: Dieser Beitrag ist aus einem Dialog heraus entstanden. Ausgangspunkt war die Reaktion von Carol Marley nach einer Präsentation von Chris Gilligan im Rahmen einer Veranstaltung. Um der Art seiner Entstehung gerecht zu werden, haben die Autoren die Dialog-Form gewahrt. Der Beitrag fokussiert zwei Bilder-Sets - das eines Fotojournalisten und eines von Chris Gilligan. Die Autoren nutzen diese Fotos, um der Frage nachzugehen, was den narrativen Gehalt eines Bildes ausmacht und um Möglichkeiten einer positiven visuellen Repräsentation zu generieren, die die Idee offener Grenzen unterstützt. Sie greifen dabei auf linguistische Theorien zurück, um uns der Grammatik visueller Narrative zu nähern, und verbinden diese mit dem Themenfeld visueller Repräsentationen von Immigration im zeitgenössischen Europa. ; This article developed as part of a dialogue between the two authors. The dialogue was sparked off by Marley's response to a seminar presentation by Gilligan. In keeping with its origins we have retained the dialogue format. The article focuses on two sets of images—one a still image taken by a photojournalist, the other a sequence of stills taken by one of the authors. The authors use these images to explore the question "what imbues an image with narrative content?" and to explore the possibilities for developing a positive visual representation which promotes the idea of open borders. The article draws on linguistic theory to explore the grammar of visual narrative and relates this to the issue of the visual representation of immigration in contemporary Europe. ; Este artículo se desarrolló como parte de un diálogo entre los dos autores. El diálogo se inició por la respuesta de Marley a una presentación en seminario hecha por Gilligan. Manteniendo sus orígenes, hemos conservado el formato del diálogo. El artículo se centra en dos grupos de imágenes: el de una imagen fija tomada por un periodista gráfico y, el otro, una secuencia de imágenes tomada por uno de los autores. Los autores utilizan estas imágenes para explorar la pregunta "¿qué le imbuye a una imagen el contenido narrativo?" y para explorar también las posibilidades de desarrollar una representación visual positiva que promueva la idea de las fronteras abiertas. El artículo se fundamenta en la teoría lingüística para explorar la gramática de la narrativa visual y relacionarla al tema de la representación visual de la inmigración en la Europa contemporánea.
