Interviewing community elder Elena "Buldozer" Maximino ; Session 97 ; NALDC
Abstract:
Ate Inga asks Elena to talk about the times when the Japanese were occupying Luzon. At the time they mention that they mountains were full of animals for hunting, something that has apparently changed. Ate Inga inquires about the price of rice, milk and candies at that time and they both comment that the cost of life had a major increase during the Martial Law (1972-1981). Ate Inga continues comparing the advantages of life when they were in the mountains in order to illustrate that the former lifestyle was better than the one they have nowadays. Elena agrees with the fact that the lifestyle has disappeared. The conversation now shifts to the topic of Elena Maximino. She has always been very strong, which explains the nickname Bulldozer, so they discuss how she became that strong. Later (min12) they discuss about the clothes women were wearing when Elena was young as opposed to clothes women wear now. Elena continues explaining stories about the time when she was young, with a focus on the Japanese period and considered that the Japenese treated them well. Later on (min 35) they continue talking about hunting strategies and other ways of income there were in the past. ; Language documentation Corpus ; Documentary Linguist and Phd Candidate ; Participates and recording, annotation, translation
