Abstract:
This first publication on Za:r is part of a work that first started in 1991 in Azare and has now taken the shape of a lifelong enterprise. The general purpose of describing the Za:r language is to help put on the linguistic map a language spoken by about 150 000 speakers in the South of Bauchi State, Nigeria, and mainly in the ogoro Local Government Area. The present work is primarily aimed at Za:r speakers. All of them are bilingual, using Za:r locally and Hausa regionally. English is a prerequisite in the Nigerian system of education. Through the use of Za:r, English and Hausa in the dictionary and collection of texts, this book is meant to develop the readers' competence in the three languages and will help Za:r children become more familiar with English. Finally, the local (Bauchi) Hausa has been chosen for the translation of the collection of texts, and to document a non-standard variety of the language. ; Cette première publication sur le zaːr fait partie d'un projet qui débuta en 1991 à Azare au nord du Nigéria est s'est transformé en l'entreprise de tout une vie. Cette description du zaːr a pour but de rendre mieux connu une langue parlée par environ 150 000 locuteurs au sud de l'état de Bauchi au Nigéria, et principalement dans la circonscription de Ɓogoro. Cet ouvrage s'adresse avant tout aux locuteurs du zaːr. Tous sont bilingues, utilisant le zaːr localement et le haoussa régionalement, l'anglais étant la langue de l'enseignement secondaire au Nigéria. Par l'utilisation simultanée du zaːr, du haoussa et de l'anglais dans le dictionnaire et dans la collection de textes, ce livre entend améliorer la compétence du lecteur dans les trois langues, et aider les enfants zaːr à se familiariser avec l'anglais. enfin, le haoussa local de Bauchi a été choisi pour la traduction des textes, afin d'établir un corpus d'une variété non-standard de la langue.
