Prosodia y pragmática en Tag Questions en el inglés de 4º de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria

Abstract:
This Final Master’s Project main objective has been the design of an intervention proposal in English prosody, to improve the teaching-learning process of Tag Questions in the 4th year of Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO). As regards the methodology, this relies on two aspects. Firstly, on a bibliographic review of Tag Questions’ syntax and the pragmatic meaning of their intonation patterns. Within this frame, the main didactic difficulties in teaching these grammatical structures in the ESL classroom are also addressed. Secondly, the project is founded on the development of a didactic intervention proposal. This is based on the bibliographic review and it aims to facilitate the comprehension and oral production of Tag Questions in different communicative situations. To this end, the proposal includes activities in which a classic method, the Total Physical Response, is combined with Gamification, the Problem-based Learning method, all under the umbrella of the Cooperative Learning Approach. The first of these methods aimed at facilitating the learning of different intonation patterns through coordinated hand gestures. The other two were to be applied in problem-solving tasks and in producing short oral exchanges. In conclusion, it can be affirmed that this work has made it possible to appreciate the pertinence and relevance of teaching the prosody and the pragmatics of tag questions from a cooperative perspective and that, without this knowledge, full understanding of the uses and meanings of these structures in everyday conversation is hardly attainable. ; El objetivo principal de este Trabajo Fin de Máster (TFM) ha sido diseñar una propuesta de intervención, en el campo de la enseñanza de la prosodia del inglés, para la mejora del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de las Tag Questions, en el aula de 4º de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO). En relación con la metodología, esta se sostiene, en primer lugar, sobre una revisión bibliográfica de la sintaxis de las Tag Questions y los efectos pragmáticos de su entonación. En este marco, también se abordan las principales dificultades didácticas que plantea la enseñanza de estas estructuras gramaticales en el aula de inglés. En segundo lugar, el trabajo se apoya en la elaboración de una propuesta de intervención didáctica, con base en la investigación documental, para facilitar la comprensión auditiva y la producción oral de Tag Questions, en distintas situaciones comunicativas. Para ello, en la propuesta se incluyen actividades en las que se combinan un método clásico, la Respuesta Física Total, con la Gamificación y el Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas, bajo el Enfoque Cooperativo. A través del primer método se ha pretendido facilitar el aprendizaje de distintas curvas de entonación, empleando gestos coordinados con la mano y, a través de los otros dos, preparar para la resolución de problemas y la elaboración de intercambios orales breves. Como conclusión, se puede afirmar que este trabajo ha permitido apreciar la pertinencia y relevancia de enseñar los aspectos prosódicos y pragmáticos de las tag questions, con una metodología polivalente, y que, sin este conocimiento, no es posible comprender cabalmente los usos y significados de estas estructuras en la conversación cotidiana.
