Abstract:
International audience ; 平子 達也・トマ ペラール １ はじめに 八丈語は，東京都八丈町(八丈島)と青ヶ島村(青ヶ島)で使用される言語である。本稿では， このうち 2012 年 9 月の合同調査(以下，本調査)で調査を行った八丈島にある５集落の方言の みを扱う。以下，八丈語といった場合，それは八丈島で話される諸方言の総称である。 八丈語と日本語本土諸方言および琉球諸語との関係は必ずしも明らかではない。本稿の主たる 目的は，従来から指摘のあった八丈語の「古さ」と「新しさ」について今一度整理をしなおし， 現代の八丈語が歴史的には複数の層が重なり合って形成されたことを示すことにある。データは 主に本調査によって得られたものを用いる。 以下，表記については調査報告書や先行研究にあるものはそのまま引用し，通常「 」内に東 京方言の形で(漢字仮名交じりで)その意味を記す。現段階では十分な形態素分析ができていな いが，形態素境界を示す場合にはハイフンを用いる。なお，文献資料や方言のデータの出典につ いては本稿末尾を参照。 ２ 先行研究 2 八丈語と本土日本語諸方言および古代日本語(上代東国方言含む)や琉球諸語との関係に言及 のある研究のうち，特に本稿に関わると考えられるものを中心にまとめておく。なお，ここにい う上代東国方言とは， 『萬葉集』の巻 14 および巻 20 にある東歌・防人歌と呼ばれる歌謡に反映 される当時の東日本に分布していたと考えられる言語のことである。 ２．１ Dikins and Satow (1878) 八丈語の文法記述で最も古いものである。その中に，八丈語による「ウイデ祝い」の話のロー マ字書きとその英訳，音声・文法の解説があるという。八丈語の形容詞連体形 ke が『萬葉集』 の東歌・防人歌にも見られるものことはその後も多くの研究者によって指摘されてているが，は じめてその事実を指摘したという点で，この Dikins and Satow の研究は評価されるべきもので ある。 1 本稿は，主に 2013 年 9 月 9 日に八丈町保険福祉センターで行われた国立国語研究所セミナー・第 6 回八丈方言講座『八丈・島ことば調査のつどい』 (主催：国立国語研究所・八丈町教育委員会)で筆 者ペラールおよび平子が行った講演内容をもとにしている。 2 本節の執筆にあたっては，金田(2001; 2012 など)の記述を参考にした。
