Abstract:
Les études portant spécifiquement sur le rôle de la traduction dans les processus d’indépendance politique sont peu nombreuses, et ce, même si la traductologie s’intéresse grandement aux enjeux politiques et aux questions de pouvoir. Le présent travail ancré dans l’actualité pose un premier regard sur le rôle de la traduction dans le processus d’indépendance de la Catalogne, de même que sur le concept de paradiplomatie en traductologie. En effet, dans la foulée de la crise juridico-politique de 2010 entourant le statut de la Catalogne en Espagne, la société civile indépendantiste catalane a mis en œuvre une importante campagne de traduction afin de sensibiliser la communauté internationale à la cause indépendantiste. Notre corpus est composé de 21 documents produits et traduits en deux langues ou plus entre 2010 et 2014 et dont le sujet principal est l’indépendance de cette communauté autonome espagnole. Notre objectif consiste à étudier le phénomène de la traduction comme instrument paradiplomatique, en explorant tout particulièrement le choix des langues et des publics cibles, de même que le discours véhiculé par cette campagne de traduction multilingue. Notre recherche repose sur deux approches, l’une descriptive et l’autre analytique à l’appui de travaux qui s’inscrivent en sociologie de la traduction, en sociologie des langues, en études postcoloniales et en analyse du discours. L’approche descriptive expose comment s’articule cette campagne de traduction et s’intéresse tant au contenu des documents qu’à leur paratexte. L’approche analytique comporte deux volets. Le premier consiste en une analyse générale des 21 documents et concerne le contenu d’ensemble, les thématiques, les objectifs, les langues et publics cibles, et les agents. Le deuxième volet consiste en une analyse critique du discours dans les trois livres qui font partie du corpus. Nos résultats démontrent que le principal public cible de cette campagne de traduction est l’Union européenne et qu’elle vise à légitimer l’indépendance de la Catalogne face à ce public cible, mais aussi face à la communauté internationale. ; There are still only a few studies that deal specifically with the part played by translation in political independence processes, despite the fact that nowadays Translation Studies as a field focuses largely on political and power-related matters. Topically relevant, this work takes a first look at the role played by translation in Catalonia’s independence process, as well as exploring the concept of paradiplomacy in Translation Studies. Indeed, in the aftermath of the 2010 legal and political crisis related to the status of Catalonia within Spain, the Catalan independentist civil society undertook an extensive translation campaign in favour of independence. The aim of this campaign was to make the international community aware of the Catalan independence cause. Our corpus comprises 21 documents produced and translated in two or more languages between 2010 and 2014 and that deal primarily with the independence of this autonomous community of Spain. Our objective is to study the phenomenon of translation as an instrument of paradiplomacy, exploring the choice of target languages and audiences in particular, as well as the discourse conveyed by the campaign. Our research draws on two approaches, namely descriptive and analytical, using works from the fields of Sociology of Translation, Sociology of Language, Postcolonial Studies and Discourse Analysis. Our descriptive approach deals with the organization of the campaign and uses the content of documents as well as paratextual features. Our analytical approach is twofold. First, we perform a general analysis of all 21 documents taking into account the general content, subject matter, objectives, target audiences and languages, and the translation agents. Second, we conduct a critical discourse analysis drawing on the text of the three books in our corpus. The results show that the main target audience of this translation campaign is the European Union and that it aims at legitimizing the independence of Catalonia before this target audience, but also before the international community at large. ; Els estudis que tracten específicament del paper de la traducció en processos independentistes són escassos, tot i que la traductologia s’interessa molt pels assumptes polítics i per les qüestions de poder. Aquest treball arrelat a l’actualitat representa una primera mirada al paper de la traducció en el procés d’independència de Catalunya, així com al concepte de paradiplomàcia en traductologia. En el marc de la crisi juridicopolítica del 2010 al voltant de l'estatut de Catalunya a Espanya, la societat civil independentista catalana va posar en marxa una important campanya de traducció a favor de la independència amb l’objectiu de sensibilitzar la comunitat internacional a la causa independentista catalana. El nostre corpus està format per 21 documents produïts i traduïts en dues o més llengües entre el 2010 i el 2014, i que tracten principalment de la independència d’aquesta comunitat autònoma d’Espanya. El nostre objectiu consisteix en estudiar el fenomen de la traducció com a instrument paradiplomàtic, explorant particularment la tria de les llengües i públics destinataris, i el discurs vehiculat per aquesta campanya de traducció multilingüe. La nostra recerca combina dues perspectives, una de descriptiva i l’altra d’analítica, basades en treballs que s’inscriuen en la sociologia de la traducció, en la sociologia de les llengües, en els estudis postcolonials i en l’anàlisi del discurs. La perspectiva descriptiva exposa com s’articula la campanya de traducció i s’interessa tant al contingut dels documents com als elements paratextuals. Pel que fa a la perspectiva analítica, aquesta és doble. D’una banda, consisteix en l’anàlisi general dels 21 documents i tracta del contingut del conjunt, de les temàtiques, dels objectius, de les llengües i públics destinataris, així com dels agents. D’una altra, es fa una anàlisi crítica del discurs dels tres llibres del corpus. Els resultats demostren que la campanya de traducció estudiada té com a principal públic destinatari la Unió Europea i que aquesta campanya aspira a legitimar la independència de Catalunya davant d’aquest públic, però també davant de la comunitat internacional en general.
