Abstract:
Estudos de multimodalidade em mídias digitais enfrentam um desafio, na medida em que os objetos de estudo apresentam volatilidade, por serem constantemente transformados e renovados, seja em decorrência da emergência de novas práticas discursivas, seja por conta de novas possibilidades tecnológicas. Isso requisita ao analista verificar a aplicabilidade de categorias e de métodos de análise multimodal já existentes em face das novas práticas, atentando para as formas pelas quais unidades mínimas de análise são sistematizadas, para o papel atribuído ao layout no direcionamento da atenção do consumidor textual e para os modos pelos quais as diferentes possibilidades de articulação intermodal viabilizadas pela plataforma, pelos gêneros e pelas tecnologias de edição, manipulação e remixagem são contempladas nas diversas proposições. Desse modo, partimos, nesta pesquisa, da hipótese de que um sistema de COESÃO VERBO-IMAGÉTICA, estruturado a partir do sistema de TRANSITIVIDADE, ligado à Metafunção Ideacional da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional permite consolidar unidades de análise, mapear relações estruturais, processuais e instanciais entre as modalidades e estabelecer direcionalidade de modificação a partir da determinação da modalidade dominante. Nesse sentido, assumimos como objetivos desta pesquisa: i. propor um sistema de COESÃO VERBOIMAGÉTICA e uma metodologia de análise; ii. determinar os critérios de definição e de operacionalização de unidades de análise em interações verbo-imagéticas; iii. depreender efeitos semântico-discursivos da instanciação de laços coesivos. A investigação é articulada a uma hipótese secundária de que a articulação entre as noções de Figura e Fundo e o sistema de VALOR INFORMACIONAL permite que identifiquemos Níveis de Visualidade envolvidos no consumo de textos multimodais digitais. Assim, podemos determinar sobre quais dimensões visuais o sistema de COESÃO VERBO-IMAGÉTICA é aplicável. Para tanto, fundamentamo-nos, primariamente, na Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (HALLIDAY, 2004; LAVID; ARÚS; ZAMORAO-MANSILLA, 2010; FUZER; CABRAL, 2014; GONÇALVES-SEGUNDO, 2014), por fornecer categorias de análise que possibilitam descrever a construção do significado em termos de experiência dos atores sociais em práticas discursivas diversas, e, secundariamente, na Linguística Cognitiva (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1980; LANGACKER, 2008; TENUTA; LEPESQUER, 2011; HART, 2014; GONÇALVES-SEGUNDO, 2017; VEREZA, 2007, 2013, 2016), por fornecer categorias para refinar o olhar interpretativo sobre os efeitos semântico-discursivos de laços coesivos e para a determinação do estatuto atencional de elementos verbais e imagéticos no âmbito de Níveis de Visualidade, além de possibilitar a compreensão da relação entre coesão e metaforização multimodais. As proposições que desenvolvemos permitiram identificar a partir de um corpus constituído por textos estáticos e dinâmicos publicados no YouTube, no Twitter e no Instagram três modos de correspondência estrutural coesiva entre elementos verbais e imagéticos (Reiteração, Adição e Identificação), que se articulam em maior ou menor grau aos efeitos de Ajuste de Focalização (Restrição Referencial e de Ajuste de Saliência), de redução de ceticismos e de orientação de raciocínios inferenciais. Além disso, discutimos a possibilidade de padrões coesivos verboimagéticos estarem associados à estruturação de gêneros discursivos. ; Studies on multimodality in digital media face a constitutive challenge, since their objects of investigation present high volatility, for they are constantly transformed and renewed, due to the emergence of new discursive practices and to the semiotic potential of new technological possibilities. The analyst must, thus, verify the applicability of the existing methods and categories of multimodal analysis to the new practices, directing attention to the ways through which the minimal units of analysis are established, to the role attributed to the layout in construing windows of attention and to the ways each proposal deals with the different possibilities of multimodal articulation enabled by the various platforms, the different genres and the technologies of image-text edition and remixing. Hence, we hypothesize that an IMAGETEXT COHESION system, structured from the TRANSITIVITY system of the systemic-functional approach to semiotics, is productive in terms of establishing analytical units, mapping structural, processual and instantial units between modes and determining the directionality of modification based on the dominant mode. Therefore, we assume as objectives of this research: i. to construe an IMAGE-TEXT COHESION system and an analytical methodology; ii. to determine definitional and operationalization criteria in order to delimit analytical units in image-text interactions; iii. to infer semantic-discursive effects related to the instantiation of cohesive ties. This investigation is associated with a secondary hypothesis, i.e., that the articulation between the notions of Figure and Ground and the INFORMATION VALUE system enables the identification of Visualization Levels involved in the consumption of multimodal digital texts. This allows the determination of the visual dimensions the IMAGE-TEXT COHESION system may be applied. To do so, we draw primarily on Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 2004; LAVID; ARÚS; ZAMORAO-MANSILLA, 2010; FUZER; CABRAL, 2014; GONÇALVESSEGUNDO, 2014), insofar as it provides analytical categories that enable the description of meaning-making processes in terms of the experience of the social actors in diverse discursive practices, and, secondarily, on Cognitive Linguistics (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1980; LANGACKER, 2008; TENUTA; LEPESQUER, 2011; HART, 2014; GONÇALVESSEGUNDO, 2017; VEREZA, 2007, 2013, 2016), since it provides categories that enhance the interpretation of semantic-discursive effects of cohesive ties, the determination of the attentional status of verbal and pictorial elements within Visualization Levels and the comprehension of the relations between multimodal cohesion and metaphorization. Based on the analysis of a corpus of static and dynamic texts published in YouTube, Twitter and Instagram, we were able to identify three types of structural correspondence in the cohesion of verbal and pictorial elements (Reiteration, Addition and Identification), which are related, to a greater or lesser extent, to the effects of Focal Adjustment (Referential Restriction and Salience Adjustment), of skepticism reduction and of inferential reasoning orientation. Furthermore, we discussed the possibility of correlation between image-text cohesion patterning and genre structuring.
