Abstract:
Tese de doutoramento em Ciências da Educação (especialidade em Literacias e Ensino do Português) ; Após a restauração da independência, em 2002, o Estado timorense avançou imediatamente com a política de restauração da identidade linguística do povo timorense abalada e/ou quase perdida ao longo de 24 anos pela ocupação indonésia e pela expansão do bahasa indonesia no território. Apesar de tudo isso, a influência javanesa não eliminou por completo a verdadeira identidade do povo timorense, adquirida ao longo dos séculos pela miscigenação entre a cultura autóctone e a latina, ainda que tal influência a tenha alterado significativamente em alguns aspetos culturais e linguísticos. Para resgatar a identidade quase extinta no período da ocupação, o novo Estado optou desde cedo por uma política de recuperação da identidade linguística originária do povo timorense. Esta política ganhou relevo na agenda do desenvolvimento, ainda que não tenha sido fácil, até agora, concretizar tal desígnio, sobretudo no que se refere à política da (re)introdução da língua portuguesa em Timor-Leste, apesar de o Estado ter escolhido o português e o tétum como línguas oficiais e da identidade timorense, reconhecendo simultaneamente o inglês e o indonésio como línguas de trabalho e de contactos internacionais. Esta investigação desenvolve-se em torno das questões da política linguística em Timor-Leste, centrando-se mais especificamente sobre a ação e a formação dos tradutores timorenses que atuam nas instituições do Estado. Para o efeito, recolhemos perceções e opiniões de tradutores, sobre a sua ação e sobre a formação inicial adquirida, assim como sobre a sua visão das necessidades de formação contínua ou pós-graduada. E propomos as linhas fundamentais do plano de curso de um Mestrado em Estudos de Tradução no Contexto de Timor-Leste. Este é um tema relativamente novo e pouco explorado pelos académicos, tanto timorenses como internacionais, que se dedicam ao estudo da política linguística timorense. Centramo-nos fundamentalmente na questão da política linguística na vertente de tradução como constituindo um contributo para a resolução da complexidade linguística vivida na sociedade timorense. Acreditamos que, com mais atenção a este serviço, o Estado poderia consolidar mais eficazmente a política linguística definida, nomeadamente no que toca ao uso consistente das duas línguas oficiais em todos os atos, tanto formais como informais, bem como o seu uso nos media nacionais. ; After the restoration of independence in 2002, the Timorese state immediately moved forward with the policy of restoring the linguistic identity of the Timorese people which had been shaken and almost lost over 24 years of Indonesian occupation and the expansion of Bahasa Indonesia in the territory. Despite this, the Javanese influence did not completely eliminate the true identity of the Timorese people, acquired over the centuries by the miscegenation between indigenous and Latin culture, even though the Indonesian influence has significantly altered some of its cultural and linguistic aspects. In order to salvage the almost extinct identity during the occupation period, the new state opted early on for a policy of recovering the linguistic identity which originated from the Timorese people. This policy has gained prominence in the development agenda, although until now it has not been easy to achieve this goal, especially with regard to the policy of (re)introducing the Portuguese language to Timor-Leste. This is the case despite the fact that the state has chosen Portuguese and Tetum as its official languages and those that characterise Timorese identity, while recognizing English and Indonesian as languages of work and international contacts. This research is carried out around the issues of language policy in Timor-Leste, focusing more specifically on the action carried out by Timorese translators working in state institutions and their training. To this end, we collect perceptions and opinions from translators about their action and about the initial training acquired, as well as about their vision of the needs for continuing their work or for postgraduate training. We also propose the fundamental lines of the course plan for a master’s in translation studies in the context of Timor-Leste. This is a relatively new topic and little explored by academics, both Timorese and international, who are dedicated to the study of East Timorese language policy. We focus primarily on the issue of linguistic policy in the area of translation and its contribution to the resolution of the linguistic complexity experienced in East Timorese society. We believe that, with greater attention to this service, the state could more effectively consolidate the defined linguistic policy, namely with regard to the consistent use of the two official languages in all acts, both formal and informal, as well as their use in the national media. ; Esta investigação teve o apoio da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, através do seu programa de Bolsas de Estudo de Pós-Graduação PALOP e Timor-Leste, Estímulo à Investigação e Valorização Profissional
