Die Erhebung dieser attitudinal-perzeptiven Daten erfolgte mittels eines Online-Fragebogens, der von insgesamt 79 Direktor:innen öffentlicher Schulen aus acht Bundesländern ausgefüllt und sowohl quantitativ als auch qualitativ ausgewertet wurde. Es zeigte sich, dass bei den Schulleiter:innen persönlich eher positive Wahrnehmungen und Einstellungen bezüglich des Dialekts vorliegen, diese werden im schulischen Kontext aber zugunsten einer verstärkt standardsprachlichen Ausdrucksweise hintan gestellt werden. So gibt die überwiegende Mehrheit der Proband:innen an, ‚Dialekt‘ zu sprechen, verwendet aber in offiziellen als auch in inoffiziellen, schulbezogenen Gesprächssituationen eine eher ‚hochdeutsche‘ Sprachform. Auch erteilt eine Mehrzahl der Gewährspersonen Vorgaben zur Verwendung von Standardsprache (‚Hochdeutsch‘) im Unterrichtsgeschehen. Eine Erklärung für die einerseits dialektaffirmativen Wahrnehmungen und die andererseits dialektaversiven Einstellungen scheint in einer Verbindung zwischen etwaigen negativen Dialektassoziationen und dem beruflichen Anforderungsprofil der Direktor:innen zu liegen: Zur Erfüllung ihres öffentlichen Auftrags, alle Schüler:innen an die Standardsprache heranzuführen, scheint eine standardnähere Sprachform bei sich selbst sowie bei Lehrkräften und Schüler:innen das probatere (Kommunikations)Mittel zu sein. ; The subject of this study is the perceptions and attitudes of Austrian upper-secondary school principals regarding their personal, a general, and a school-related dialect use. These attitudinal-perceptual data were collected using an online questionnaire that was completed by a total of 79 upper-secondary school principals, presiding over public schools in eight states, and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. It was found that the school principals personally have more positive perceptions and attitudes regarding dialect, but that these are put aside in the school context in favor of a more standard form of speech. Thus, the overwhelming majority of the test persons state that they speak 'dialect', but use a rather 'high German' form of speech in official as well as in unofficial, school-related conversations. A majority of the respondents also gives instructions on the use of standard language ('High German') in the classroom. One explanation for the dialect-affirmative perceptions on the one hand and the dialect-averse attitudes on the other seems to lie in a connection between possible negative dialect associations and the professional requirements of the principals: In order to fulfill their public mandate to familiarize all students with the standard language, a speech style closer to the standard seems to be the more suitable (communicative) means for themselves as well as for the teachers and students they preside over.
