jeteraps.scholarlinkresearch.org Management’s Innovative Behaviours and Task Performance among Secondary School Teachers in Cross River State, Nigeria
Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to find out the influence of principals ’ innovative behaviour on secondary school teachers ’ task performance in Cross River State, Nigeria. The Ex-post Facto design was adopted for the study. Two sets of instruments-principals ’ innovative behaviour questionnaire (PIBQ) and teachers ’ task performance questionnaire (TTPQ) for teachers and students respectively were developed, validated and used. The (PIBQ) with six items on four-point Likert type scale were administered to 500 teachers while the (TTPQ) made up of 18 items were responded to by 2000 students selected through stratified random sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The major finding of the study showed that there was no significant influence of principals ’ innovative behaviour on teachers ’ task behaviour. Based on the above finding, some recommendations were made. Some of which are: (i) the government should encourage principals to initiate ideas that enhance school improvement by removing administrative bottle necks. (ii) Government and school principals should give teachers adequate training before introducing any novel ideas. This will enhance their skills and forestall the fear of the unknown that causes resistance to change.
