Abstract:
International audience ; In this paper I deal with the question of the denomination of human beings from the point of view of the denomination of human groups with collective nouns specific to human beings (e.g. audience, choir, administration, government, people). In terms of semantics the main characteristics of collective nouns are: plurality, bringing together elements belonging to the same category, the connection between the individual element and the group. For collective nouns involving humans there is also the feature /human/. This characteristic expresses different points of view on groups of humans and the bases on which they are brought together (shared organization, social bond, resemblance, co-presence, representation of individuals). I will discuss the idea that the denomination of a group using a collective noun is a pertinent element for describing or qualifying the human beings that compose the group. ; Cette contribution envisage la question de la nomination d’humains sous l’angle de la nomination de pluralité d’humains par le biais de noms collectifs spécifiquement humains (e.g. public, chœur, administration, gouvernement, peuple). Les caractéristiques principales des Ncoll sont, sur le plan sémantique : pluralité, regroupement d’éléments de même catégorie, rapport entre élément et groupe, auxquels il faut ajouter le singulier morphologique. Pour les noms collectifs humains se rajoute le trait /humain/. Ce trait détermine des points de vue différents sur les groupes humains et leur mode de rassemblement (organisation commune, lien social, ressemblance, coprésence, représentation des individus). Sur ces bases, on examine et discute l’idée que la dénomination d’un groupe par un Ncoll-H est un élément pertinent pour décrire ou qualifier les humains qui le composent.
