Abstract:
The target-oriented theories in cultural turn, based on the theoretical foundation that translation is a process subject to differing socio-historical conditions, provide us a wide scope to re-observe translators’ activities as well as their interaction with the target socio-cultural context. Aiming to have a deep understanding of this type of interaction, this paper examines the translation activities in late Qing dynasty inChina. By presenting a general picture about the translation practice in late Qing dynasty, this paper looks into how the late Qing translators interact with the socio-cultural constraints and how their translation activities counteract to the target culture.
