Abstract:
En aquest article s’aborden dues preguntes plantejades en el marc de la revisió històrica de la sociolingüística catalana: fins a quin punt continuen essent vàlids els plantejaments de l’anomenada sociolingüística del conflicte? Com hauria de definir-se la normalitat lingüística per a una llengua com el català? Després de repassar breument la presència de la noció de conflicte en la sociolingüística catalana i internacional, hom argumenta que bona part dels pressupòsits bàsics d’aquell enfocament continuen essent vàlids, molt especialment si se circumscriuen al tipus de societats per als quals van ser desenvolupats. Pel que fa a la idea de normalitat, se sosté que algunes formes de normalitat feble que s’havien postulat anys enrere probablement no garanteixen l’estabilitat lingüística en moments de canvi demogràfic i s’exposen algunes idees per a unes polítiques lingüístiques que cerquin la normalització del català.Paraules clau: sociolingüística del conflicte; establiment de llengües; minorització lingüística; economia política de la llengua; política lingüística; normalització lingüística. ; This article addresses two questions raised in the context of the historical review of Catalan sociolinguistics: to what extent is the approach known as conflict sociolinguistics still valid? How should linguistic normality be defined for a language such as Catalan? After a brief review of the presence of the notion of conflict in Catalan and international sociolinguistics, it is argued that many of the basic assumptions of that approach are still valid, especially if limited to the type of societies for which they were developed. As for the idea of linguistic normality, it is argued that some forms of weaker normality that had been postulated years ago probably would not guarantee linguistic stability in times of demographic change, presenting some ideas for linguistic policies aimed to achieve the normalization of Catalan.Keywords: Conflict sociolinguistics; language establishment; language minorization; political economy of language; language policy; language normalization.
