Children with DS have delays in speech and language skills which will affect communication and education. Parent programmes have been shown to be effective in significantly improving language skills in children with learning disabilities. DSS offer groups for parents across Scotland based on practical speech and language activities that parents can use at home to support their child’s communication. There are 3 group formats depending on design and delivery; some groups are designed for parents only or parent and child, one group is delivered by co-workers instead of a speech and language therapist. The aim of the study is to provide an independent evaluation of the three programmes from the parents’ perspective. The evaluation outcome will aid in decision-making, taking into account parental views as well as estimation by DSS on cost-effectiveness. Keyword: Philology.
