Abstract:
International audience ; This chapter aims to take a first step towards improving our understandingof Suriname’s contemporary linguistic context. It is based on the results ofa recent sociolinguistic survey carried out among primary school children inSuriname. Exploring children’s statements about their own and their families’language practices, their language attitudes, their language learning desiresand self-assessment of their linguistic competence, we describe the contemporarysociolinguistic situation of Suriname and identify pertinent issues forfurther research. ; Ce chapitre présente le contexte linguistique du Surinam. Il est basé sur les résultats d'une étude sociolinguistique récente réalisée dans les écoles primaires au Surinam. A travers l'étude des déclarations des élèves sur leurs propres pratiques et celles de leur famille, des attitudes, des désirs d'apprentissage et des estimations des compétences langagières, il présente des éléments de contexte et les lie aux enjeux identitaires importants.
